For the locals: Cat-map!

I always say that I have a mental cat-map of all the stores in my neighborhood that have cats. So, I decided to take my mental map for a particularly fertile (cat-wise, at least) stretch of the area and make it into… an actual cat-map.

If you know of any other local stores in NYC that have cats, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll expand the map or possibly map other neighborhoods… or you can make your own cat-map of your favorite local haunts that have feline friends to greet their customers!

Kitties at rest

My husband snapped this picture of the cats and emailed it to me with the subject “Resting up after a night of badness.”  For some reason the cats were very active the other night, and managed to open numerous drawers, cabinets, and doors; play with their toys loudly; and vomit on the floor… and here they are snoozing away in the AM as if nothing ever happened. Of course, they look totally innocent in this picture, don’t they?

Famous Men Who Love Cats: James Franco

Recently, I read somewhere (sorry, I can’t remember exactly where, in some magazine) that the actor James Franco loves cats. Lo and behold, apparently James Franco features cats in many of his videos – this one features him and his brother holding two of their cats at the end. He was also featured in the Chicago Meow blog’s “15 famous cat lovers.”

California Bookstore Cats

Although I don’t live in California (sometimes I sure wish I did!), this is a great roundup, complete with a handy chart, of bookstore cats in Northern California.

As the article says, “A bookstore cat is a shop’s mascot and keeper, equally adept at charming customers and, when the lights go out, chasing away rodents. And so let us celebrate these furry souls – hopefully not an endangered species! – as more and more readers get their books delivered in shrink-wrapped packages from out-of-state corporate behemoths, or transmitted, in blips, to hand-held devices no cat would ever want to cuddle up to.”

Help PAWS NY get a $50,000 grant

Hopefully Menandcats.com readers already subscribe to, and read, the PAWS NY e-newsletter and/or are part of our Facebook group, but in case you haven’t heard the news, we are in the running for a potential $50,000 grant from Pepsi as part of the Pepsi Refresh campaign – and needless to say, this amount of money would be hugely transformational for us.
