Cat News Roundup

In case you missed the article in the NY Times, the tale (or should I say “tail?”) of “Dewey, a rescued cat who lived for 19 years in a library in a small town in Iowa, has sold for about $1.25 million to Grand Central Publishing.”

In other cat-related news, “Winnie the Wonder Cat” leapt into action to save a family whose home had filled up with carbon monoxide, according to this news report out of Indiana. According to the family, “The mother says Winnie started meowing, scratching her to get her to wake up.”

More pet food recalled

More bad news on the pet food recall – it has now been expanded to certain types of dry food and cat treats (including some types of the Menandcats.com cats’ favorite brand, Pounce). Pet foods affected include products made by Del Monte Foods (Jerky Treats, Gravy Train Beef Sticks and Pounce Meaty Morsels) and those made by Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc. (Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry food).

Cat vs. Mayor

According to the NY Times, a cat may be responsible for the power outage that caused Mayor Bloomberg to cancel his scheduled appearance at the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. Allegedly, a cat chewed through some electrical wires at the place where the luncheon was to be held, causing the outage.

Huh, I didn’t know infamous chewer-of-wires, Charley (one of the Menadcats.com official cats) could travel to Queens all the way from Brooklyn on his own.
