Robert and Desmond

This cozy pair is Robert (human) and Desmond (feline). Robert says Desmond was found outside, in the middle of a blizzard, by a couple who lived on Lake Michigan. “He was six months old and freezing, not to mention malnourished,” according to Robert. The couple who found Desmond couldn’t keep him due to allergies, but they helped ease his transition into his new life by taking him to vet for neutering and shots before he was adopted by Robert. Desmond is “a friendly, social cat who loves to play fetch and chase things.  He’s a better Defensive Back than half of the Detroit Lions, and he loves destroying my couch.” Sounds like a much better life than living outside, freezing and starving! It’s a good thing Robert and Desmond found each other. They look like a great team!

Recil and Cyrus

This is Recil (human) and Cyrus (a six year old orange tabby). Recil’s wife, Alondra, says when she saw this photo from 2003, “I knew I was making the right decision to marry this man.”

Although Cyrus is no longer alive, Alondra says he had a great life full of love. She also says, “My husband is just now coming home from Iraq and my warm feelings for him burn hot with love, especially when I look at these and other photos of him with our cats and dogs.”

Welcome home, Recil! Hope you have a wonderful reunion with your human and animal family members!

Must Love Cats

I just set my DVR to record the new TV show “Must Love Cats” which is starting this Saturday on Animal Planet. I haven’t even seen the show yet, but based on the website for the show and this interview with host John Fulton, I already have a major crush on him. A super-cute musician who loves cats?! I can’t wait to see this show!

UPDATE: I have seen the show and LOVE it!! My new favorite tv show.

Sam and Bam Bam

I don’t know what I love more – this adorable photo of Sam and Bam Bam (they kind of look alike, don’t you think?!) or Sam’s awesome description of him and his cat: “This is me and my cat Alabama (Bam Bam). We enjoy rock music, whiskey, women and kittens.”

Sounds like a man with excellent taste!

John Lennon, cat lover

John Lennon was killed thirty years ago today, and the New York Times had some pieces on the Op-Ed page remembering him – including one from Yoko Ono where she talks about John’s love for cats:

JOHN and I are in our Dakota kitchen in the middle of the night. Three cats — Sasha, Micha and Charo — are looking up at John, who is making tea for us two.

Sasha is all white, Micha is all black. They are both gorgeous, classy Persian cats. Charo, on the other hand, is a mutt. John used to have a special love for Charo. “You’ve got a funny face, Charo!” he would say, and pat her.

Of course, Menandcats.com is not at all surprised that a talented, artistic, and inspiring man such as John Lennon was a tremendous cat lover.
