This is an interesting story from my neck of the woods (Brooklyn, NY) – According to the Brooklyn Paper, a “cat-loving Cobble Hill man whose valiant effort to save a lost feline last year was misinterpreted as the rantings of a crazy person has sued the hospital that medicated him in a way ‘normally reserved for violent psychiatric patients.’ ” Chris Muth, who the paper says is also known as “the cat man,” was trying to rescue a cat who got stuck behind a wall. In order to do so, he went into an unoccupied apartment and somehow, the authorities showed up and didn’t believe his story. “They thought that the frantic man was going through a psychotic episode, and hauled him to LICH” (Long Island College Hospital). The nurse on duty “administered a shot of Haldol, a powerful anti-psychotic drug, court papers allege.” The Brooklyn Paper says, however, that Muth was “eventually proven to be sane” and the cat, Rumi, was rescued by animal control.

The cutest kitties in METAL
My husband loves all kinds of music, including metal. Recently, we were in a bookstore and he picked up the latest issue (Dec. 2009 – issue #62) of Decibel, a metal magazine, and turned to me and said, “You are going to FREAK OUT.” He opened the magazine and showed me a spread called… The Cutest Kitties in Metal. I did, in fact, proceed to immediately freak out. There are seven pages of metal dudes with cats. So whether you’re a fan of metal or just cats, I urge you to pick up the latest issue of Decibel. The photos aren’t on the magazine’s website, but they gave me permission to post a couple of them here, so here are two of my favorites – although, really, I just love them all. Get the magazine to see all of the photos!
“Tony Shaloub” in the men & cats series on funnyordie.com
The next video in the “men and cats” series on Funnyordie.com is “a little darker” according to creator David Title. It is a bit more bittersweet than the first video in the series, yet still funny. I still like how these manage to subvert the stereotype that only single, lonely, crazy, un-marriageable ladies have cats!
What do you call a cat who cuts off your circulation?
One thing I love nearly as much as cats is wordplay – crossword puzzles, puns, neologisms, I love them all.
Last night, Thurston – all 19 or so pounds of him – sat on my legs as I had them stretched out on the sofa. After sitting this way for quite a while, I finally dislodged Thurston and got up – and found one of my legs totally asleep. I said to my husband, “My leg was asleep… Thurston totally cut off circulation to my legs.”
My husband replied, much to my delight, “A purr-niquet.”
Matt & Siouxsie
This pair of cuties is Matt and his cat Siouxsie. Matt’s girlfriend, Sarah, says they adopted two cats from their local Humane Society, and that Matt was initially reluctant to get one cat, but she somehow managed to talk him into getting two (good job, Sarah). Sarah reports, “Now, two years later he can’t get enough of the kitties. They follow him everywhere. They both have to lie on or around him every moment. They watch every baseball game, football game, and hockey game through to the end. No matter the extra innings or OT, the cats are snuggled up against Matt. Our cats have become his favorite buddies.”
