Kittybank

I think it’s fairly common for people to do “cat voices” for their feline friends. My husband and I do it all the time, and I will often have an entire “conversation” with my cats, with me talking and then doing “cat voice” for the cat (“Hey mom! Fill my bowl! Fill it now!”) Yes, I know. So wrong. Ahem. Anyway… we think Charley is really smart. He is so smart that rather than just saying “fill my bowl!” he also talks about things like U.S. foreign policy, the subprime mortgage crisis, etc. Today Charley was acting really busy, like he had a lot to do, so he “said” (well, my husband said) “OK, I have to fix Citibank now. First order of business, I’m going to re-name it Kittybank.” He’s a genius, that cat (ok, husband) of mine.

Mike and Stacey Sox

Menandcats.com reader Mike submitted this photo of himself and his cat, Stacey Sox. Mike says, “I got Stacey Sox at a shelter and very sadly she died much too young. She was a great cat and a great friend and is very greatly missed by her friend Mike.”

What a nice tribute to Stacey Sox, Mike!

A man who got a little TOO worked up about his cat

The Associated Press is reporting that the police in Dallas, TX are on the lookout for a man who “took his gray and blue short-haired cat from the Dallas Animal Shelter while fending off employees with a baseball bat.” According to the shelter manager, the man – who found his cat in the shelter after the feline had been brought in by someone who thought it was a stray – was unwilling to pay a $132 fee required to claim his cat, got upset and left. He later returned to the shelter, loaded his cat into a carrier, and then started threatening shelter employees with a baseball bat, “nearly running over two shelter employees” when leaving in his car. The police have a lead, though – apparently the man signed his name in the shelter’s guest book before taking off with his cat.

Win and Felix

Win’s fiance, Leen, sent in this pic of Win and their cat, Felix. She says that Win is normally “stoic, no-nonsense, and serious” but “melts at the sight of adorable, helpless kittens!” Leen described Felix as a hyperactive, talkative tuxedo cat with a trademark bug-eyed expression. Wow!! Felix sounds, and looks,  just like my own bug-eyed, talkative, always-chewing-on-everything, totally-nuts-but-I-love-him completely tuxedo cat Charley.

And, for comparison’s sake, Charley:

Jason and Mini

Jason is a 35 year-old married man and school psychologist who says he has always had cats in his life, usually adopting older unwanted cats from a shelter. “However,” Jason says, “I met Mini when she was a feral kitten roaming around on a farm in North Carolina where I met my wife.  Mini was only 6 months old when she saw my out of state Virgnina tags and decided to adopt me by walking up to me and she climbed on my lap.  We have been great friends ever since.”
