Matt & Siouxsie

This pair of cuties is Matt and his cat Siouxsie. Matt’s girlfriend, Sarah, says they adopted two cats from their local Humane Society, and that Matt was initially reluctant to get one cat, but she somehow managed to talk him into getting two (good job, Sarah). Sarah reports, “Now, two years later he can’t get enough of the kitties.  They follow him everywhere. They both have to lie on or around him every moment. They watch every baseball game, football game, and hockey game through to the end.  No matter the extra innings or OT, the cats are snuggled up against Matt. Our cats have become his favorite buddies.”

Ethan, Buster, Arthur and Wheatabix

Menandcats.com reader Laura wrote in to let me know about her husband, Ethan, and their three cats: Buster, Arthur, and Wheatabix. Buster was the cat that won Ethan’s heart – he was not a “cat person” but was convinced by a friend with a litter of kittens to adopt Buster. Ethan intended for Buster to be Laura’s cat but Laura says that Ethan and Buster became like “peas and carrots.” Apparently Buster was the gateway cat, because Ethan’s newfound love of kitties led to the addition of  homeless kitties Sir Arthur Colbert and  Squire Aramis Wheatabix. Wheatabix is  pictured wearing a bumblebee hat, which made me remark to my husband “I think this might be the best photo I’ve ever seen” (since I’m obsessed with bees as well as cats).

Chatterwauling

My husband loves to point out neologisms to me, and recently came up with a good one of his own.

Charley, our always peppy tuxedo cat, likes to run around chattering (this sounds something like “meowmeowmeow, meow mow mrrr mow mow mrr meow” – maybe I’ll attempt to get an audio recording at some point and post it), and occasionally he will let out a caterwaul (usually in the middle of the night). The other day, he seemed to be especially chatty AND caterwaul-y, and my husband said to him, “Charley, stop chatterwauling.”  Voila! A neologism.

Charlie and Noodles

Menandcats.com reader Jenny says her Noodles is “the most pose-able kitty ever” and is a much-adored 12-toed cat. Noodles took to Jenny’s boyfriend Charlie “like a duck to water” and loves to be covered up inside anything, including boxes, blankets, and Charlie’s coat. Funny, Noodles looks a bit like my black-and-white feline who shares a name with Jenny’s boyfriend.

Travis and Lola

Travis’s wife, Jackie, sent me this wonderful story of how their kitty Lola came to join their family. It’s such a great story that I’m just going to post it here in its entirety. Take it away, Jackie:

“I am a woman who loves a man who loves a cat. After finding your blog I couldn’t resist sending you the story of my man who loves a cat.
